A elderly man travelling on a mobility scooter on a pedestrian crossing in Northamptonshire died after he was involved in a collision with a car.

Police released details this morning of the crash near the Morrisons superstore in Corby yesterday.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the victim, aged 79, died after the crash in Oakley Road at about 2.25pm.

"He had been crossing a pelican crossing on his mobility scooter when he was hit by a grey Fiat 500. The air ambulance was called to the incident but the man died at the scene," the spokesperson said.

The road was closed in both directions while emergency services attended. The crash is now being investigated by Northants Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

No arrests have been made in connection with the collision and witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage should call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.
