Ownership of Northamptonshire village community hub transferred to parish council

Earls Barton Parish Council is celebrating its new ownership of the St John’s Ambulance (EBPC) building in Elizabeth Way, with plans to restore the space for community use.

St John’s Ambulance in Elizabeth Way has previously been available for hire and used for social occasions, and the parish council is hoping to bring the space back into use for a range of events and occasions to become a ‘key focus for the community.’

An Earls Barton Parish Council spokesman said: “EBPC are pleased to announce that, as of yesterday, we are now the proud owners of the former St John Ambulance building.

"There’s some work to do before we’re ready to formally open, but we will be holding an event to welcome the community into our new home in due course.”

North Northants Council (NNC) posted a notice of intention to dispose of the listed asset in October 2025, meaning its owner wished to ‘undertake a ‘relevant disposal’ of the building, paving the way for eligible community interest groups to be treated as a potential bidder for the property, dubbed an ‘asset of community value.’

Now, the parish council hopes the building will be in regular use for community events such as meetings, yoga groups, mums and tots, and parties.

Having engaged with residents, it was found that 93 per cent of people in the village were in favour of the council buying the building and 91 per cent supported a £1 per month rise in council tax to support its proposal.
