Northamptonshire Police insist they are powerless to act over the debate that horrified a nation and broke the internet.

Weetabix sent social media into meltdown by posting photos of Heinz baked beans smothering two of its breakfast cereal biscuits.

Their caption read: “Why should bread have all the fun, when there’s Weetabix? Serving up @HeinzUK Beanz on bix for breakfast with a twist. #ItHasToBeHeinz #HaveYouHadYourWeetabix”.

It was all too much for the top brass at Wootton Hall Park, however, as they clearly considered the Northamptonshire-based firm cereal offenders for their mash-up.

They tweeted back: "We have had a few comments from members of the public asking how we are going to respond to this incident.

"It is clearly a crime without a doubt but we won't be visiting their headquarters in Burton Latimer just yet as the Crimes Against Breakfast Act doesn't exist..."

Paramedics from one of Northamptonshire's two Air Ambulance choppers also got involved with a tweet from Helimed54 saying: "Even if us and Helimed53 attended this horrible mess together, as your Local Air Ambulances, we’d struggle to save you with this one...."

And Northampton Saints gave the issue a good rucking with a terse "This is one time we don't want a try."

The row even threatened to interfere with international relations as US and British embassies got personal.

The Yanks tweeted that the pairing was not the US-UK “collaboration we were hoping for” to which the British embassy responded with: “Strong opinion from the nation that makes tea in a microwave.”

The US Embassy later followed up with a reply which referenced the viral Handforth Parish council Zoom call, saying: “We’ve checked the Standing Orders…. And they say no beans on Weetabix. Read them and understand them @UKinUSA!”
