A group of people who work for Northamptonshire Police are taking on their own half marathon challenge after their planned event was cancelled.

The seven runners who all work for the Children’s Protection Team took part in the Northampton half marathon last year for Child Bereavement UK.

This year, they were intending to take on the challenge again, however the pandemic means the event has been cancelled so instead the team will run the 13.1 miles by themselves instead.

One of the runners, James Wright, said: “We love the work that Child Bereavement UK does and wanted to continue supporting them.

“Unfortunately within Child Protection we often deal with the sudden and untimely deaths of children, and work with the families to support them, so the work of Child Bereavement UK is directly linked to our role, which is why we feel such a strong bond with the charity.”

Child Bereavement UK helps children and young people up to age 25, parents and families, to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies, which is a cause the team was keen to support despite the cancellation.

The group is now looking for the perfect route for their socially distanced event on October 5 as they hope to raise at least £1,000 between them - a goal they exceeded last year.
