Northamptonshire charities urged to sign up for Aldi food donation scheme

Charities and community groups in Northamptonshire are being urged to sign up to Aldi’s surplus food donation scheme ahead of the summer holidays.

The supermarket said demand for food support can rise when schools break up, with a further one million meals expected to be redistributed across the UK during the holidays.

Aldi works with community giving platform Neighbourly to donate surplus food from its stores to local charities and community groups.

Participating organisations can collect food nearing its use-by date from their local Aldi store, helping to reduce food waste while supporting people in need.

Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: “No good food should go to waste, especially when so many families need extra support during the school holidays.”

Steve Butterworth, chief executive officer at Neighbourly, said local charities were “often a vital lifeline” during the holidays.

Groups can register their interest at neighbourly.com.
