A Northampton town centre cafe will not reopen its doors after lockdown after taking too many "hard financial hits" during the pandemic.

The Bread and Butter Factory on St Giles Street has been serving customers for nearly five years - but it will not be open to greet its regulars after the lockdown.

In a Facebook post this week, owner Bee McDonaugh thanked her customers and staff for their support since she launched the company as a lunch-delivery service in 2011.

She said: "It's with a very heavy heart that I have to let you know that Bread & Butter Cafe on St Giles Street will not be reopening its doors after lockdown.

"Like many businesses large and small the Coronavirus pandemic has hit us hard financially and is not something I can recover from.

"The Bread & Butter Factory started nine years ago a solo lunch delivery project and grew to include corporate catering and our little cafe. This growth took a team and I was blessed to have an exceptional one. Thank you and love to you all.

"Thanks to our customers and friends for your continued support through this life-changing time.

"My aim is to set up our online lunch delivery service in the near future and begin again."
