Staff at a Tesco store in Northampton stepped in to support a food bank after an urgent appeal for food donations and funds.

A total of 15 trays of food and £160 was collected for the Sikh Community Centre and Youth Club (SCCYC) by encouraging shoppers at the supermarket on Clannell Road to donate on Saturday (May 8).

The SCCYC provides support to around 400 people each week but its chairman, Harjinder Kooner, recently reported that funds and produce were running critically low.

“It was fantastic to see so many colleagues and customers showing their support to the SCCYC over the weekend.

“We know this donation will mean a great deal to the Sikh Community Centre and Youth Club at such a crucial time.”

Tesco communications manager Keith Jackson added: “We are delighted to offer our help to food banks such SCCYC who work incredibly hard to support the Northampton community.”
