Northampton street closed off as chimney collapses

A fire crew has been deployed to a Northampton street after a chimney has fallen from a rooftop and smashed onto the pavement.

Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue and Northamptonshire Police have closed Castilian Street off this afternoon to oncoming traffic while they clean up the area.

Emergency teams have been on site for almost two hours, after they were called to the scene at about 1.10pm.

A resident who lives in the street said: "I did not hear or see it fall, the road was empty of pedestrians.

"Two fire tenders and police are currently on site and the street is closed off.

"It didn't look like anyone was hurt, no ambulances are on the scene."

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: "We were called about this at 1pm to reports of a chimney falling off a roof in Castilian Street.

"The fire service also attended and the road had to be shut while the debris was cleared up. We are still at the scene."
