A Northampton school has paid tribute to a former headteacher, who was at the helm for 20 years and was known for his “generosity of wisdom”.
Moulton School & Science College paid its respects to John Woodhead, who was headmaster at the school from 1987 until 2007.
The school said Mr Woodhead’s legacy is “woven into the fabric of the school” and that he touched the lives of many former students and staff members.
Posting on Facebook, the school said: “It is with a heavy heart and great respect that I write to share the news of the passing of Mr. John Woodhead, who served as Headmaster of Moulton School from 1987 until 2007.

“John was a man of immense scholarship, having studied at Cambridge, Nottingham, and Durham Universities before dedicating his career to education. During his twenty-year tenure at the helm of our school, he guided the community through significant periods of history—spanning the end of the Cold War and the leadership of three Prime Ministers—always providing a steady and wise hand.
“Beyond his professional achievements, those who worked alongside him remember John for his extraordinary warmth and caring character. Colleagues shared how John made it his mission to ensure every staff member felt seen and valued. He was known for his "generosity of wisdom" and was a source of constant encouragement, often seeking staff out to congratulate them on their progress.
“Mr Woodhead, thrived on the act of teaching and sharing knowledge. His legacy is woven into the fabric of this school, and his influence continues to be felt by the many former students and staff members whose lives he touched.”
The post was met with hundreds of reactions on Facebook and dozens of comments from people who knew Mr Woodhead and remember him fondly.
One former pupil said: “Much thanks to a man who cared and always wanted the best for all his pupils.”
Another added: “RIP to my headmaster from my school days - much respected and brilliant headmaster.”
Another commenter said: “John was a fantastic headteacher, he really cared and was very supportive.”
The school also offered its thoughts and “deepest condolences” to John’s family and friends.
