A Northampton hair salon wants to help anyone who has had a go at doing their own hair at home make light of the mess they probably made by offering a prize for the "worst lockdown haircut".

With salons and barbers closed across the country, stories have been shared online by stuck-at-home residents who have resorted to giving their hair a trim or dye job on their own.

And not everyone has made a great job of it.

But now, Beauty With Inn Salon, in St James, wants to offer a consolation prize for anyone regretting letting their mum do their fringe for them.

They're offering six months of free haircuts for Northampton's "Worst Lockdown Haircut".

Owner of Beauty With Inn Natalie Faulkner said: "We know there are probably lots of boys out there who wanted the perfect fade when they asked their mum for a haircut and now look like they're going in the army, and girls whose dye jobs have gone all shades of yellow and green.

"We've decided to say to all those new stay-at-home mums and dads and everyone else to send us your videos and pictures if you've tried to do your hair at home during the lockdown.

"You've got to have a laugh about these things, so we're offering six months of free haircuts to the worst one.

"And, of course, we'll also give four months of free visits to the best one we see as well - because they don't need our help as much."

Entries can be sent to [email protected]. Entries close on April 20.

Natalie says she and her team launched the competition after seeing some of the homemade attempts at cutting hair by people staying at home during the coronavirus lockdown.

Natalie said: "All I can say is please, please don't attempt it. Our guys and girls have had years of training and it's best if you just wait a little longer to have your hair done."
