A Northampton lad has faced the chop for charity by shaving off all his hair to support the NHS.

Lias Lavell braved his dad's hair clippers last week after pledging to shear his locks down to a number-one-all-over in support of NHS Charities Together.

But after setting out with a goal to raise £100, the nine-year-old's extreme haircut has smashed his target and reached £370 on JustGiving.

He told the Chronicle & Echo: "It feels really good and I think it looks cool too.

"I wanted to raise money for the NHS so they can help save people's lives from coronavirus.

"I hope they can use the money to buy lots of machines."

Lias - who normally dotes on his hair with products and styling - was inspired to face the chop after his dad was forced to shave his own head without a barber to visit.

Mum Jessica Barnes said: "After his dad shaved his head Lias said he wanted to do it as well for charity.

"He wanted to do it straight away but I got him to wait a few days so more people would hear about it online first.

"I was a bit worried about it at first but, you know what, it raises money for the NHS and it grows back. Plus he really likes it - I was worried he would regret it.

"I'm so proud of him. It's just a shame he can't show it off."

"If my friends saw it they'd probably say it looks really good," said Lias.

"I think when it grows back I'm going to cut it again and raise more money."
