A Northampton newsagent said it made his day to donate Easter eggs and chocolate to key worker children at two schools in the town.

Andrew Cruden from Market Square News delivered 30 eggs to Lings Primary School and 15 to Denton Primary School yesterday (Thursday, April 2).

"With fewer people around to buy Easter eggs, we're going to end up stuck with them so we might as well give them away," he said.

"What better way to do that than to give them to the ones who are having to work as they are keeping the country going at the moment.

"So I thought to give them to the kids of key workers at schools."

Andrew's family have been running the town centre newsagents for 23 years this year, with his father George taking it on in August 1997.

The newsagent asked two of his customers who are teachers at the schools if they would be happy to have the donations, which they arranged with their head teachers.

"They were really grateful, especially the teachers, they were really thankful and couldn't say 'thank you' enough," he said.

"We don't very often get a chance to do something like this so it was nice to give something back as there are a lot of people still having to work and they're not getting many thanks for it."
