A Northampton mum-of-three is in the running to be crowned Miss British Isles Elegance 2020 in a beauty contest this April.

Vijay Singh, from Duston, set out to become a model at the beginning of 2020 on the year of her 40th birthday - and now she's ready to show the nation her talent.

She has been invited to represent her town at the finals of the Miss British Isles Elegance awards, a contest for ladies aged between 30 and 44.

If she claims the sash, Vijay will be set to claim a modelling contract, a trip to Marbella, and a sight-seeing trip in Gibralta.

Vijay told the Chronicle & Echo: "I'm so excited I can't even tell you. It would mean so much for me to win.

"I've been modelling since January, and when they saw my pictures they invited me to compete.

At the national final in Chester this April, Vijay will be up against finalists from across the British Isles.

She will be required to take part in a professional photo-shoot and then a catwalk show at the final, after which the judges crown the winner.

Previous winners of Miss British Isles have gone on to be signed by top modelling agencies, taken part in major TV shows and even appeared in a Bollywood film.

The Miss and Mr British Isles finals take place over three days.
