A Northampton man who allegedly broke a police officer's finger while they tried to arrest him on Sunday has been charged with a string of violent offences.

Melih Buyukezurum, of Alpha House, Broad Street, was arrested on August 16 in an incident where one officer reportedly sustained a broken finger and another was left with back injuries.The 31-year-old appeared at Northampton Crown Court today (August 18) where he was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm five counts of violence between June 20 and August 16.

On June 20, Buyukezuru allegedly wounded a man on St Andrews Street, damaged two of his mobile phones and stole his car before driving it without insurance. He was also charged with sending this man threatening messages via Snapchat.

On April 8, he allegedly assaulted a man close to the St Peter's Way car park, before returning on June 15 to find and assault the same man while hurling racial slurs at him.

And, on the day of his arrest on August 16, he allegedly assaulted three officers while using racial insults and threatening language, which reportedly led to one officer suffering a broken finger and another sustaining back injuries.

At court, the Magistrate's ordered all the charges to be heard at Northampton Crown Court on September 16.

Buyukezurum was remanded into custody.
