Northampton gymnastics club youngster 'shocked' to be shortlisted for prestigious gong at national awards
A Northampton gymnastics club youngster has been shortlisted for a prestigious gong at the British Gymnastics Awards.
Ellie Vassel, who attends Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnastics Academy, has been shortlisted in the Young Person of the Year category sponsored by Milano, which recognises an inspiring young person in the British Gymnastics community who is a passionate champion of gymnastics.
The British Gymnastics Awards recognise exceptional people and organisations that help keep gymnastics enjoyable, safe and open to everyone, making a positive contribution to individuals, local communities and wider society.
Ellie said: “I am shocked at being shortlisted for this award, but it means a lot that I am having a positive impact on the gymnasts that I both coach and train with.”

The awards will focus on those who have demonstrated a commitment to delivering an uplifting gymnastics experience for all and living our values for the sport of inclusive, aspirational and supportive.
This year, the awards will also celebrate British Gymnastics Foundation’s awards, recognising those who are transforming lives through gymnastics.
Sarah Powell, British Gymnastics CEO, said: “This year, we are delighted to recognise another outstanding group of nominees for the 2026 British Gymnastics Awards, reflecting the extraordinary individuals and organisations that continue to shape our sport. The nominations showcase the dedication and passion that help ensure gymnastics remains enjoyable, safe and accessible for everyone, creating meaningful and lasting positive impacts for individuals, local communities and wider society.
"A strong theme throughout this year’s awards is the celebration of those who consistently go above and beyond to deliver inspiring gymnastics experiences, bringing to life our core values of being inclusive, supportive and aspirational.
“To all our finalists, congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. Your commitment and contributions make a real difference, and you should be extremely proud of the impact you have on our sport.”
The winners of the various categories will be announced to the public in early February.
