A Northampton restaurant is giving under-pressure NHS staff caught up in the COVID-19 outbreak a much-needed boost by offering them a cut-price curry, while free meals will be available to anyone aged over 70 who is self-isolating.

Saffron, in Castilian Street, Northampton is slashing the price of all takeaways by 50 per cent for all NHS staff to show its appreciation for their hard work as the country battles to contain coronavirus.

Meanwhile, anyone aged over 70 who is being forced to self-isolate can get food delivered to their door free of charge as the restaurant looks to care for the most vulnerable members of the community.

Saffron marketing director Imran Chaudhary said: “This virus is sending the whole of the UK into virtual lockdown but it is also shining a light on the incredible people working on the frontline of the NHS. They do an amazing job day in, day out and we want to do something to show them how much we appreciate them.

Doctors and nurses are going to be incredibly busy in the weeks and months ahead and we want to give them the chance to enjoy a top-class curry when they do get a bit of time off. They are heroes. They deserve a treat and we’re only too happy to deliver it direct to their door.

“The over 70s have done so much for us over the years, now is the time for us to do something for them in return. We are proud to be a part of the community and communities need to come together in times like these. It’s a small gesture and it’s the very least we can do.”

Healthcare professionals can take advantage of the offer entering the code ‘NHS-Heroes’ on any online order until April 30. Valid ID will need to be shown to the driver upon delivery.

Anyone over 70 and living within a five mile radius of the town centre can order a meal of up to £15 per person (maximum two per household).

Saffron currently remains open to diners, with enhanced hygiene and social distancing measures in place - including increased spacing between tables and cashless payments.
