Stacey has lived in her flat for 12 years with her two children and she says she has always taken pride in keeping her home clean.

After she had a new bathroom two years ago, she said it's been the cause of black mould growing and spreading on her bathroom ceiling, but she doesn't know why.

She reported this to Northampton Partnership Homes on Friday and Northampton Partnership Homes have since told the Chronicle & Echo they 'were in the process of scheduling a visit'.

Stacey said: "When I first moved in, the ceiling was fine but it seems to be since I have had a new bathroom fitted. When I reported it they just sent me a leaflet.

"Obviously, I've been treating it but it's not working and I don't know what else there is to do."

While Stacey reported the mould, she also reported 'floor subsidence' in her kitchen - where her washing machine is being balanced by kickerboards.

"I really feel like I am going to go through the floor," she said. "I've obviously got children and I'm trying to tell them to 'be careful' and I'm telling them to 'stop running around'. I don't like having people in here and my children are at that age where they want friends round all the time but it's highly embarrassing.

"I've had decorating equipment in my cupboards for a year but I daren't do it. These flats were were only meant to be here for 25 years for the residents of the London overspill."

Gary Duckmanton, Assistant Director of Property Maintenance and Compliance said: "We have visited Miss Bazeley previously to assess the condition of the floor. At the time, the inspections showed that no works were considered necessary. We are sorry to hear that Miss Bazeley is still experiencing issues with the floor, so I have instructed a repairs team leader to carry out a further inspection before the end of next week.

"We have only recently been made aware of Miss Bazeley’s concerns about mould and we were in the process of scheduling a visit. We will now assess the issue of mould in Miss Bazeley’s home when we visit to inspect the floor. Speaking in general terms, we offer our tenants advice on reducing condensation and removing mould, which includes making sure their homes are well heated and ventilated. We are unable to comment on the cause of this particular problem until we have had the opportunity to visit Miss Bazeley’s home."
