Northampton Carnival won't be able to parade through our streets this year - but organisers still want the town to celebrate in style.

Next weekend would have seen the 16th annual Northampton Carnival wind through the town and make some noise on the Racecourse.

But now, the parade's organisers are asking Northampton to join them in their first-ever 'online' festival to keep the spirit of carnival alive.

'Northampton Carnival: The Online Edition' will premiere on June 13 at 2pm across Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.

The online event will be a joint effort by the carnival's regular troupes, groups and performers who are being asked to record a carnival activity that can be shared on the day.

Alongside that, young people can get involved in a mask or head-dress crafting competition help across the region by the East Midlands Carnival network.

Crafty entrants have been challenged to create a festival mask using only re-cycled materials from around their home with a chance at winning vochers and cash prizes.

Entrants must register and submit an entry by July 5, and winners will be announced on East Midlands Virtual Carnival Day on July 25. To request a registration pack, email [email protected].
