'No incident' at Northampton convenience store after security smoke accidentally alerts fire service

An accidental activation of a Northampton corner shop's security smoke system caused a full response by the fire service last night.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue was called to the Premier Krates Supermarket on Boughton Green Road at around 9.10pm yesterday evening (April 23).

A witness reportedly called 999 after seeing smoke billowing out of the shop.

But when fire crews arrived, they found the shop was filled to the brim with smoke - with no fire in sight.

Instead, they found the shop's security smoke cloak system had activated by accident.

There was no fire to tackle and the activation had not been caused by a break-in.

Fire crews remained on scene to offer advice.
