New community food larder opens in Northampton town centre aiming to be ‘welcoming space’ and make ‘real difference’
A new community food larder, aiming to be a “welcoming space” and make a “real difference”, has opened in Northampton town centre.
Impact Now and United African Association – who are part of the Food Aid Alliance West Northants (FAAWN) – opened the larder at Liberty House in Wellingborough Road last month.
The larder offers shelves filled with fresh, chilled and frozen items, as well as tins and packets.
A spokesman for FAAWN said: “It’s all made possible through the generosity of volunteers, donors, and community partners.

“Whether you’re in need or looking to lend a helping hand, this initiative is here to make a real difference.”
Two different sized bags are available, one priced at £5 and one at £10, which are worth approximately £20 and £40, respectively, and include a selection of fresh produce, chilled goods and frozen meals.
It is hoped the larder will be a “welcoming space” for the community, which also offers wraparound support, including signposting to local resources, wellbeing support and opportunities to connect with community partners.
The FAAWN spokesman added: “We’re here to help people navigate challenges and build resilience.

“We warmly invite you to come and see what we’re doing — meet the team, explore the space, and discover how we’re working together to support our neighbourhood.
“The community food larder is more than just a food store — it’s a place of hope, connection, and care.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more caring West Northampton — one meal at a time.”
Find the food larder at Liberty House, 254 Wellingborough Road. Opening hours are Friday 11am until 1pm and Saturdays 11am until midday.
