A woman from Northampton has raised more than £1,000 for the NSPCC by braving the shave.

Julie Hazell was already considering shaving her hair off, but was going to wait until next year and mark a big birthday with the shave.

Instead, the 58-year-old braved the shave on Saturday (May 2) and had her shoulder length, which was around seven inches, shaved off.

Julie was planning the shave for her 60th birthday next year, but decided to bring it forward. Photo: Abby Cohen.Julie was planning the shave for her 60th birthday next year, but decided to bring it forward. Photo: Abby Cohen.

In the process of gaining a new hairstyle, Julie, from Duston, has raised £1,355 for NSPCC.

Julie said: “The shave is something that I was considering doing next year when I turn 60, but I thought why not bring it forward as charities are not getting the money they need right now.

“Everyone seems to be fundraising for the NHS, which is great, but I thought I’d support something else.

“It’s all to do with missing my children and grandchildren.

“You hear about different things on TV and social media about child abuse and all I want to do is cuddle my children.

“But there are children out there who are not getting the love and protection and help that they need.”

Donations can still be made on Julie’s JustGiving page.
