Peter Frost has visited the area of land between Drapery and College Street car park that is causing problems a handful of times since he last spoke to The Northampton Chronicle & Echo two weeks ago.The private pest controller who owns his own business says there are 'more rats than ever'.

Peter said: “The problem is getting worse and the rat holes are getting bigger.

“There are more rats than ever.

“The mud mounds are getting higher. It’s about six inches every week.

“The rats have found a nest next to the wheelie bins.”

Peter said he reported the problem to the council more than a year ago, but in the last two to three months the problem has worsened.

Sam’s Chicken, in Drapery, employ Peter to look after the pest control in their premises that has a five star food hygiene rating.

The shop and Peter say they are not responsible for the land where the issue lies and are ‘frustrated’ that the rat problem is ongoing.

The land is also not the responsibility of the council.

A Northampton Borough Council spokeswoman said: “We have identified the owners of land to the rear of the property and will be issuing formal notices.

“We can confirm that all food premises on the Drapery are meeting their obligations in relation to pest control responsibilities.”
