Mobility scooter rider falls off into oncoming traffic and dog escapes lead trying to navigate dumped Voi scooters in Duston
The rider of a mobility scooter who fell into the road trying to swerve around two dumped Voi scooters has apologised to drivers in Duston who were caught up in the chaos.
A photograph posted on Spotted Duston at 10.26pm on Sunday March 8 showed one Voi scooter parked inconsiderately across the pavement and another dumped partly on the grass verge.
A statement alongside it reads: “My apologies to the drivers coming up Kerrfield Estate yesterday.
“I fell off my mobility scooter into traffic on the road whilst walking my dog. It was not the dog’s fault.

"As I fell, I dropped and knocked the lock off on the extendable lead. The mobility scooter rolled down the ramp of the dropped kerb into the roundabout. The dog was in the road in the other direction.
"OK walking the dog whilst on a mobility scooter maybe was not the wisest decision. But this happened by navigating a Voi Scooter sticking out on the pathway.
"Can I kindly please ask that people either not leave them on paths or tuck them tightly to the edge.
“It’s hard enough to avoid cars parked partially on the pavement, bins, the very uneven paths and finding suitable dropped kerbs.
"Luckily we are both ok. Thankfully the lead car had a sensible person driving, otherwise the outcome could have been very different.
"Thank you to the lovely lady who stopped to check I was ok afterwards.”
Voi launched their electric scooters in the town in September 2020 during a trial period which is currently in place until May 2026.
Users are required to park the scooters considerately after use while residents are encouraged to report any misuse.
