A little girl from Northampton has been reunited with her dad Pete after two months of only seeing him through a glass window.

At the start of April, while the country was in lockdown, Maisie went into Great Ormond Street Hospital for an operation.

After relapsing earlier this year she needed to have a bone marrow transplant, which was donated by her brave sister Cecily.

But due to coronavirus restrictions, Maisie was only allowed to be with her mum, Sarah, in isolation and they could only wave to their loved ones.

Cecily and their dad Pete could only see the pair through a window and were devoid from cuddles.

Sarah and Maisie, who is on the road to recovery after battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, then had to stay in isolation at the hospital for eight weeks before they could go home.

During that time, Pete would drive down from Northampton to London to bring food and clean clothes twice a week, handing them over to Sarah with not even a glimpse of his daughter, all to keep her safe.

Sarah said: “He came one Saturday night, 70 miles, just to bring Maisie some crisps that she was craving.

"He stayed for four minutes in reception with a mask and gloves on, handed me over a big bag of clean washing, and her crisps."

After weeks of isolating in hospital, Pete was finally able to drive to London and pick up his wife and daughter ahead of Father's Day.

He added: “Collecting Maisie at the end of her hospital isolation was very emotional after so long being apart.

“Being separated from Maisie for eight weeks was very difficult but being together now has made this Father’s Day all the more special.”
