Large group of travellers set up camp in busy supermarket car park in Northampton
A large group of travellers have set up camp in a busy supermarket car park in Northampton.
It is understood that the travellers parked up on Tuesday, March 17 at the back of the Tesco Extra car park in Mereway.
The Chronicle & Echo was at the site this morning (Wednesday) at 10.30am and around ten caravans and their accompanying vans were still parked up.
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “We have been informed that there is a traveller’s encampment at this location, and officers have attended to speak to all parties involved. However, no crimes have been reported.

“We understand that because the encampment is on private land, the landowner served an eviction notice and the travellers are due to leave the site today.”
West Northants Council’s traveller unit has been contacted for comment. Tesco has also been contacted for comment.
