Jury discharged from trial of Wellingborough schoolgirl, 14, charged with murder

The jury in the murder trial of a 14-year-old Wellingborough schoolgirl has been discharged by the judge after they failed to reach a majority verdict.

Jurors at Lincoln Crown Court had heard more than two weeks of evidence over the stabbing of 43-year-old Marta Bednarczyk, who was pronounced dead at a property in Wellingborough on March 10, 2025.

High Court Judge Mrs Justice Tipples had brought back the jury into court on Monday (December 15) and told them she would accept a majority verdict.

But the jury was still unable to reach a decision and they were discharged by the judge yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, December 16).

A new trial date has been set to start at the same court for Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Only 13-years-old at the time of the incident, the defendant cannot be named for legal reasons.
