‘I want to give something back’: Northants builder offering NHS worker free home building work

A selfless builder is offering to complete a home project for an Northamptonshire NHS worker completely free of charge.

Adam Clarke, from Walgrave, owns his own building and interiors business and has managed to keep busy during lockdown by lining up outside jobs.

Now, Adam, who has more than 20 years experience in the industry and can take on any building or home renovation projects, is looking to reward and help out a healthcare worker.

The 40-year-old said: “Everybody is going through a tough time, so it will just be nice to give something back to people.

“I was really poorly until last year with an overactive thyroid. If it wasn’t for the NHS I don’t know where I would be personally.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for some time, but I was not well enough until January this year.”

From his business’ Facebook page, Adam has launched the competition for the giveaway, which will see him donate a project of the winner’s choice of up to the value of £2,500.

But the builder is also giving another family a chance to win the same prize too.

Adam added: “I wasn’t originally going to do it for NHS workers.

“I was going to do it for an underprivileged family, where the parents work really hard but perhaps can’t afford to give their child’s bedroom done.

“There is very little help out there for a lot of people who need it. I know what it is like to struggle and luckily I have come out on top.

“But with everything that is going on with Covid, I decided I want to do it for the NHS as well.

“I just really want to help and me doing a project on their house might inspire them.”

Once Adam has the entries for the competition, he is planning to put a vote out on social media to let his followers decide who should win.

“I’ve had a long time to think about what I want to do and people want to get involved on my Facebook page and are supporting me as a company, so it’s only fair that the public get to decide the winner, not myself,” he continued.

When the winners have been chosen, Adam is hoping to complete the first project in August, then the second in November this year.
