A Northampton dad has put his beloved car up for sale in order to pay for treatment to target his wife’s terminal cancer.

Kim Scholfield, from Kingsthorpe, was diagnosed with cancer on the brain back in 2017 and was offered palliative care.

However, her husband Rob, found the money to pay for a second opinion and his wife was given the treatment she needed.

Now, a 12mm tumour has been found that cannot be operated on or treated with the traditional radiation therapy.

The 48-year-old has been told that she has just six to 12 months to live.

One of the only things that could help the mum-of-three in her battle is a targeted immune therapy in a German clinic, which will cost from £80,000 for the initial treatment and then upwards of £50,000 for medication.

Rob said: “I’m in a lot of support groups and I managed to find out about this treatment through a family who had a terminal case with three months left to live.

“He had the treatment and is now completely cured.

“There is a good chance it will send Kim blind, but that is better than her not being here at all and we are running out of options.”

To help pay for the costly treatment, Rob is exploring many options, including remortgaging his home and asking his employer for a loan.

The 49-year-old has also put his beloved Ford Mustang up for sale, to help raise the funds that his wife needs.

“We’ve been together since we were 18 and I have lived more years with her than I have without her.

“She is my world and I don’t want my girls to have to live without her.

“I love my car but it does not pale to how much I love my wife.”

Rob posted his intended sale on a Mustang group and was then overwhelmed when people he does not know started donating money to help him.

The group has now raised more than £14,000, which will be used for Kim’s treatment.

“I thought posting on that group would be the best chance of selling the car, but what these people have done is amazing and I’m just so humbled,” Rob continued.

“In a world where we see so much hate, it restores your faith in humanity.

“Someone from the group contacted me to say we’ll help so you don’t have to sell your car, but I want to as it will be £30,000 towards Kim’s treatment.

“I have not asked anyone for anything, I will always try and sort it out on my own, but it’s so amazing to see what they have done.”

The Mustang group has also set up a crowdfunding page on JustGiving, separate from the money already raised, where other people can donate.
