A virtual awards ceremony to honour inspiring males has been scheduled for next month to coincide with International Men's Day and you can now nominate your local role model.

Northampton Borough Council wants to honour men and boys who have made a significant difference to their local communities during a testing year by handing out a Male Role Model award for adults and a Special Recognition Award specifically for young people.

The awards ceremony will take place virtually on International Men's Day (Thursday 19) and will aim to recognise the important contributions local men and boys make in their communities, families, schools and workplaces.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Safety, said: “The fact these important awards are in their third year is testament to the hard work men and boys have done in their local communities across Northampton.

“However, we cannot recognise these individuals without the help of residents who know and work with them closely, so we call on the public to get involved by nominating these valued role models.

“Coronavirus has meant this years’ awards will be virtual, but we still expect to be inundated with nominations that will help us deliver a worthy celebration of the many individuals who have made wonderful contributions to their communities.”

Councillor Stephen Hibbert, Cabinet Member for Housing and Wellbeing, added: “In previous years we have tried to deliver a fun yet informative initiative that promotes physical and mental wellbeing among our men and boys.

“This year is no different, and we are looking forward to working with our partners to develop a full programme that is easily accessible online.”

Northampton Borough Council is now calling on residents, businesses, schools and community groups to help with the search by nominating inspirational men in their lives, particularly those who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic.

Nominations close on November 6 and can be completed here.
