Northampton and District MIND launched online Zoom workshops last month – which started from May 20 - to help people suffering from anxiety during the pandemic.

The charity, who also runs crisis cafes, says the unprecedented turn of events has caused panic even among those who have never suffered with their mental health before and staff are making 300 of check-up phone calls each week.

After hearing about the vital work MIND is doing to support those suffering from mental health issues they have pledged £2,000 to continue the virtual service and further help others.

Jo Gratrick, CEO at Northampton and District MIND, said: “The pandemic has hit our communities hard and led to an increased number of calls for help – all at a time when our fundraising campaigns have been halted or suspended.

“In times like these it is even more important that we work together to support the needs of the local community and our sponsors, like David Wilson Homes, enable us to do just that. As well as our crisis cafés which remain a face to face service, we are developing new ‘remote’ services that people in the community can access from wherever they are, both now and beyond COVID-19."

A new telephone support service has also been launched by MIND to continue to support existing clients and give a way for people new to MIND to access extra support.

John Dillon, managing director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “Whilst everyone is facing challenges and changes due to the pandemic, we were very keen to support our charity of the year in this trying time to help them continue the amazing work they do.

“The services they provide on a daily basis are admirable and we’re grateful to have this opportunity to raise vital funds for such a worthwhile cause.

“We look forward to continuing to support Northampton and District Mind throughout the year.”
