Graham Green was concerned for the horses' welfare while they were in the field and would feed them every morning as believed the owner who used to feed them had passed away.

He said: “I had been feeding them since Christmas, before that there used to be an old man who fed them. I think he was the owner but he has passed away.

“There were five in the field and I would feed them on my way to work every morning at around 4.30am.

“They had no real shelter, the field was flooded and muddy and they only had a bit of running water. They didn’t look in a great state either and they had mucky shoes.

An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed the horses were removed from the field off Banbury Lane 'by bailiffs on behalf of the landowner'.

Northamptonshire Police were also called to the scene before the horses were removed.

No further police action was required once officers were in attendance.
