A charity that helps the homeless in Northampton has confirmed its first non-virtual fundraising event since lockdown.

The Hope Centre, like many charities, has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, the lockdown and the suspension of fundraising events.

Although the charity has continued to raise funds throughout lockdown with virtual events, staff and volunteers are keen to get physical events back on.

The first of which has been confirmed as a local Ride for Hope in September.

Tanya Haji-Miller, community fundraiser for the Hope Centre, said: “Our three day challenge cycling around Holland has been postponed until September 2021 so instead, this year, we have put together a one day marshalled route around Northampton to challenge you, your family and friends.

“All abilities are welcome to sign up for the 50 or 75 mile cycle routes, whether you are a novice, intermediate or experienced rider.”

The event on September 12, will start and finish at the University of Northampton’s Waterside campus, where there will be a free celebratory BBQ at the end.

In the meantime, the charity has more virtual events to keep the fundraising going.

The ‘Big Eat In’ will take place July 30 to August 2 and involves cooking a meal and sharing it with friends via an online video system.

Participants can then donate how much they would have paid for the meal in a restaurant.

The second of the virtual events is Cycle-opoly, which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend.

This event includes visiting different locations to collect points, including a post office and a community centre, details of which will be sent to participants once they have signed up.

The highest scoring male and female will be awarded with a prize at the end of the weekend.

Tanya added: “All the money raised from the events will go towards getting the Hope Centre back on its feet after a tough few months.”
