‘Home is where we park it’: Resident slams caravanners pitched up on Northampton council estate car park

A resident has slammed caravanners who have pitched up on a Northampton council estate car park.

The nomads, made up of two vehicles, have set up an encampment on a car park just off Great Gull Crescent in Southfields.

One of the vehicles has a magnet sticker on it saying 'home is where we park it'.

An angry Southfields resident told Chronicle and Echo: “They are in a car park but council won’t move them as they are not ‘travellers’ how are they treated differently? It’s not fair we pay our council tax but they are refusing to move them on.”

In response, Reform councillor Andrew Last, cabinet member for HR , corporate and regulatory services at West Northamptonshire Council (WNC), said : “We’re aware of the encampment at Great Gull Crescent, Southfields. The Northamptonshire Traveller Unit, which acts on behalf of WNC, is engaging with those on site and relevant partners to manage the situation.

“Each case is assessed on its own circumstances, and any action must follow the correct legal process. The team will continue to monitor the site and take appropriate steps as required. Any specific concerns can be raised directly with the Northamptonshire Travellers Unit at [email protected]”
