With more than 20,000 small businesses across the county, West Northamptonshire Council wanted to pull out all the stops to make the day a success.

The Council asked organisations to share videos showcasing their small businesses, which are now all available on their social media.

“This year, it shone a light on the amazing independent retailers, family-owned restaurants, pubs, cafes, visitor attractions and activity centres across our area – and this was a great opportunity for people to shop local and support them.”

Cllr Lister says the Council received some “great videos” as part of the promotional activity, and he would encourage everyone to take a look at their social media pages to see what is available near you.

“We want to continue celebrating our small businesses all year round,” he added.

To mark the occasion, Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) hosted a networking event at Metro Bank in Abington Street on the morning of December 3.

Mark Mullen, operations manager for Northampton BID, says this gave small business owners the chance to talk to MP Andrew Lewer and representatives from the Council.

“Lots of positive conversations were had and hopefully any issues that were raised will now be acted upon,” said Mark. “It was good to see so many of our independent retailers celebrating Small Business Saturday.

Northampton BID said it was pleased the day was “well-received by shoppers and visitors to the town centre”.
