As 2021 comes to an end, we have looked back at the front pages of the Chronicle & Echo from the past 12 months.

The controversial bus lane camera is a story that we returned to again and again through 2021. It was never an argument against sustainable transport, it was about the positioning of the camera capturing motorists going into the lane and issuing a fine. The camera was right next to where cars turned right into the nearby petrol station...where many motorists naturally dipped into the bus lane to keep get round waiting cars. Fines totalled more than £500,000 until pressure from us, and others, forced a rethink.
