With barbers and hairdressers closed because of the third UK lockdown, the people of Northampton are facing growing out their unruly locks or taking matters into their own hands again.
Bravely, many have opted for the latter but as these pictures show, things don’t always go to plan when you hand responsibility – and the clippers with no guard on – to your nearest and dearest.

1. Make-up to the rescue...
Katherine O'Looney has forced her husband Steve to wear a hat after he asked her for a trim with the clippers, which went wrong. "I didn’t realise the guard was off," she said. "I then attempted to tidy it up but made it worse. Nothing a bit of bronzer couldn’t fix."
2. Drop the scissors!
Tanya Charter's little boy gave himself a restyle during lockdown after his mum had trained his hair to grow into a perfect fringe for five years. "We had to shave it all off," she said. "It took me five years to get his hair like the first picture because he has a double crown and a wonky hairline. I cried!"
