‘He had his whole life ahead of him’: Tributes to much-loved Northampton dad killed in crash as family launch fundraiser

The family of a much-loved Northampton dad are raising money in his memory following a fatal crash.

Perrie Bensted died on Saturday August 8 after his car crashed into the protective safety barrier of a bridge on Hardwater Road in Wollaston.

Perrie, a 35-year-old warehouse supervisor and former Northampton Academy student, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.

He found out he had received a promotion at work just one day before the crash and leaves his two-year-old daughter Rosie and partner Jo.

His cousin, Rochelle McMullan, said: “Perrie was still young and had his whole life ahead of him. He had a daughter who he doted on. She is still so young and does not understand where her daddy has gone.

“Having Rosie completed him, as did his partner Jo, he was so proud and happy. The little unit they formed together and love between them was unreal.

“The loss of Perrie is horrific. As a family we are distraught.”

Rochelle has launched a fundraising page in a bid to help pay for her cousin’s funeral. So far £1,200 had been donated towards the £4,000 target.

She added: “Like many people of his age, Perrie had not planned a funeral or had money put away for it.

“I am trying to relieve some pressure on his family by raising money to help towards the cost of his funeral. Any donations would be a massive help, no matter how little.”

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage following the crash.

A spokeswoman said: “The collision happened at about 4.35am on Saturday August 8 in Hardwater Road, when the driver of a black Mini was in collision with a bridge parapet. No other vehicles were involved.

“The driver, a man in his thirties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he later sadly died.

“Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured footage on a dash-cam.”
