A local radio station has secured a further 200 radios to give to older and vulnerable people to provide them with companionship.

NLive was originally given ten radios as part of a lottery funded initiative back in July this year.

The giveaway was really popular and the station had a lot of nominations, so has now decided to source more radio sets to send out to other local people.

To reach even more isolated people the station has started new partnerships with charities across the town to help distribute the sets.

Martin Steers, station manager, said: “The last competition was oversubscribed. It was a huge success and people are waiting for another batch to come in.

“It came from a third party grant, so it inspired me to do something more locally.

“It’s more important than ever as local radio plays such a vital role in the local community.

“We want these people to have the companionship of good music and locally based presenters who people can feel a connection with.

“Local radio is seeing more and more people tuning in to find out what is going on in the local area.”

Once the radios have been dispatched to NLive, the station will update listeners as to how they can nominate someone to receive a set.
