Frustration as rubbish left behind in Northampton beauty spots

Budding photographer Felix Lupascu was taking a walk in Abington Park on Sunday morning, as he usually does most days to start his weekend morning ritual.

After stepping foot in the park he noticed more rubbish than usual dotted about where people had been sitting in their respective groups.

Saddened by what he could see, he took some pictures to highlight that one of Northampton's finest beauty spots had become strewn with single-use plastics, namely bottles.

He said the bins were full but it doesn't give people the excuse to leave their rubbish behind and not take it home.

He sent the pictures into the Chronicle & Echo yesterday for this newspaper to highlight.

Felix said: "I live in the area, I was walking around and I saw there was piles of rubbish.

"I have lived near the park for two years and I've never seen it like that. I thought I would take pictures and send them to someone who could take action.

"People must have chilled out and left their rubbish behind. It left me sad to be honest. It was all over the place."

Felix noticed volunteers picking up the rubbish including plastic from sandwiches and bottles, crisp packets and broken glass from wine bottles.

"I want to go to the park and chill out and I don't want to chill out in between bottles," he added.

"There's a lot of animals in the park and you don't want to leave them laying around."

Pictures also sent into the Chronicle & Echo from a resident who lives near Lingswood Park show bin bags and empty boxes of cider dumped on the skate ramps and laughing gas canisters among the grass yesterday (Monday).

David Gee said a large group of up to 15 people were playing loud music near his house from 1pm to 11pm - and smashed a bottle outside his house, which he had to clear up.

"We were also entertained by loud cars screeching round the car park and racing up and down the road as they arrived and left. As further entertainment, one of them smashed a bottle just outside our house as he left leaving myself and a neighbour to clear up the broken glass.

"Loud music and screeching tyres is a common event here with loud music being played almost every day from mid-late afternoon, through mid-late evening and on occasion at midnight or even 3am and 4.30 am.

"How much longer do the neighbours and law-abiding public have to put up with these morons who apparently do whatever they like?"
