Four KGH coronavirus patients die

Four more patients who had tested positive for coronavirus at Kettering General Hospital have died.

The deaths were confirmed in NHS England's latest statement as the death toll in England reached 2,137.

One patient died on March 23 with the second death on March 26. Another patient died on March 28 with the fourth patient dying on March 30.

They were all in the 70s or 80s and had underlying health conditions.

A hospital spokesman said: "Kettering General Hospital is currently treating patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

"Sadly, we can confirm that four patients being cared for at our hospital, who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died. These were announced today but died between March 23 and March 30.

"Patients were aged in their 70s and 80s and all had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those patients at this very difficult and distressing time."

It brings the confirmed number of deaths at Kettering General Hospital to five after 'amazing' father-of-two Craig Ruston died earlier in March.

At the time he was believed to be the UK's youngest coronavirus victim.

Today's NHS statement said, of the further 486 deaths in England, patients were between the ages of 13 and 99.

Twenty of the patients had no underlying health condition and their families have been informed.
