Former Northampton restaurant owner changes career and is now set to release his first children’s book
A Northampton man who used to own a local restaurant has turned his hand to a new career that he has always wanted to do.
Andy Kelly has written and illustrated a children’s book that is set to be released at the end of this month.

Hide AdThe 41-year-old from Moulton used to own Sophia’s in Bridge Street is now a part-time postman, which has given him more time to focus on his books.
He said: “It’s something I have always wanted to do.
“When I went to a career advisor at school and they did the test, mine came out as saying a children’s book illustrator.
“I just never got the chance to do it as I ended up being a chef.
“After hitting 40, I realised it was time to do the things I want to do.

Hide Ad“It’s always been about everyone else, but now I’m more comfortable to throw myself into what I want to do.
“When I had a bit more time I picked up the writing again. I started this book many years ago.”
The book focuses on a goblin who lived underground where he had no fun.
Bumpkin the Goblin leaves his family and becomes friends with a boy in the outside world where he discovers everything he has been missing.

Hide AdThe dad-of-two added: “The book is suitable for children from the age of four upwards.
“I read to a primary school and they really loved it and could have fun with it.”
Andy is already planning more books one of which he says is inspired by his new job.
Bumpkin the Goblin will be available to buy from Amazon on March 31.
