Residents in the Duston and Upton areas of Northampton will miss out on their weekly food waste collection today (Thursday).

Northampton Borough Council blamed "temporary" staff shortages for the lack of regular collections and told residents to keep their full waste food caddies indoors for a week.

No information has been made available regarding the cause of the staff shortages or if further collections in other areas will also be affected on other days.

A tweet on the council account this morning said: "There are delays to food waste collections in Old Duston, New Duston and Upton areas due to a temporary reduction in staff.

"If your collection is missed, please take your food caddy back in and present it again next week."

Some collections were also missed during last year's first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

A council statement said: "We are working closely with our partner Veolia to minimise the impact of Coronavirus on recycling and waste services, street cleaning and other key environmental services."
