Stuart Heasman was walking his black and white pooch, Buddy, along Wellingborough Road on Saturday (February 21), heading towards the town centre.

The one-year-old Chihuahua, who has been microchipped, wriggled out of his collar when he spotted a cat, and ran off towards Billing Road.

On Tuesday (February 25) officers received a report that someone had contacted the owner to say they had seen a man on a mobility scooter trying to sell a dog that fits the description outside Northampton General Hospital.

Since then, those out searching for Buddy are getting 5,000 posters printed as they believe the person who could have the dog may not have social media.

They are appealing for volunteers to help distribute the posters, which will either be on Wednesday or Friday morning.

A post written by the search team on their Facebook Group, said: "The family have been in contact with the police over the last few days but it is now looking likely that the police won’t be following up that information further.

"It looks likely that with your help it will now be down to us to find Buddy.

"Sadly Buddy’s dad's mental health has taken a severe downward spiral and he is feeling that he has nothing to get out of the house for. The family and us as admin are supporting him as much as we can. That’s what this group is about."

If you have seen Buddy, who was wearing a collar with little gold crowns on when he went missing, please get in touch by calling the team searching for him on 07498556477 or 07541851616.
