A Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue service spokesman said: "We have received calls about a ‘diesel type’ smell in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton over a number of nights.

"We have been working with Anglian Water which is locating and dealing with the source.

"We would like to thank everyone who has called us and, at this time, do not need any further calls to our control room."
