Family statement regarding the death of Sajmir Beça

The following statement has been requested by the family to be published.

"We, the family of Sajmir Beça, are heartbroken to confirm that Sajmir lost his life following a tragic accident in Northampton on 31 October 2025.

He was struck and crushed by a bin lorry and was immediately taken to Coventry Hospital, where he sadly passed away in November 2025 due to multiple organ failure and a crushed pelvis.

In recent days, some media outlets have reported incorrect information about Sajmir, including claims that he was a rough sleeper. This is completely untrue. Sajmir had a home, a place where he belonged, and a family who loved him deeply. These false claims have added significant emotional distress during an already devastating time.

Sajmir faced challenges, as many immigrants do, but he was a beloved son, nephew, grandson, and cousin, cherished by all who knew him. He was an incredibly hard-working young man with a pure and generous heart.

We kindly ask the public and the media not to share or repeat incorrect information, particularly labels such as “homeless,” as they do not represent who Sajmir was or the life he lived. We have already contacted media platforms in both Albania and the UK requesting that these inaccuracies be corrected.

The police have confirmed the medical cause of Sajmir’s death, but they have not yet shared how he came to be inside the bin, and this remains an active and delicate investigation. We respectfully ask that no speculation be made regarding circumstances that have not been confirmed.

During this painful period, we ask for privacy, respect, and sensitivity, so that we may grieve in peace and honour Sajmir’s memory with the dignity he deserves.”
