A local paramedic and a passing nurse assisted firefighters worked to extract her.

One villager said: “The road was closed by the police for about two hours diverting traffic both ways around West Street. The firemen managed to get her out via the boot and she was taken to A&E not looking too injured but obviously very shocked and discombobulated.”

A spokeswoman for Northants Police said: “We received a report of a single-vehicle road traffic collision in High Street, Welford, at 6pm on Saturday, July 4.

“The collision involved the driver of a grey Honda car and their passenger, who were both reported to be trapped in the vehicle, which had flipped on its side.

“Injuries were not believed to be life-threatening nor life changing. The road was closed while the car was recovered.”
