Now, Northampton's hospital says it has paid places for students who want to join their bank staff and pitch in during the crisis.

In an appeal on twitter, the hospital wrote: "We know that many of you want to help in any way you can during this current crisis.

"We think that you have the type of skills that can assist us to provide the best possible care for our patients."

The hospital is offering paid roles for students of different skill sets and learning and will be offered induction and basic ward training.

Meanwhile, NGH is also asking for anyone with prior medical experience from a range of backgrounds to get in touch for a telephone interview to discuss what they could offer to help battle the virus.

The appeal asks for students and anyone interested in joining to contact the medical education team by calling 01604 545160 (ext 5160) or 01604 545161 (ext 5161).
