Disabled Adventurer takes on 215-mile challenge for Delapré Abbey and Stanwick Lakes
Northamptonshire’s Disabled Adventurer Nick Wilson is planning to travel 215 miles in just eight days by all-terrain powerchair to raise money to make two of the county's attractions more accessible.
Nick, known as the Disabled Adventurer, is preparing for his next “50at50” challenge, which is provisionally due to begin around October 10.
He plans to cover the distance using a Quantum Rehab Outback all-terrain powerchair, while raising enough money to purchase two of the chairs to be donated to Delapré Abbey in Northampton and Stanwick Lakes.
The chairs will form part of a trial aimed at demonstrating how joystick-controlled all-terrain mobility equipment could enable more disabled people to explore outdoor attractions and green spaces.

Nick said the project could also demonstrate possibilities for other destinations operated by organisations such as the National Trust and Forestry England.
During the eight-day challenge, he also plans to test new lithium batteries, with the results potentially helping his longer-term vision for “adaptive off-roading” and expeditions using all-terrain powerchairs.
However, Nick is appealing for volunteers to help make the ambitious challenge possible.
Support is needed with administration, including emails, diary management and liaising with others, as well as business development, project management and finding sponsors.
He is also seeking social media volunteers who can edit daily video footage, post updates and respond to comments during the challenge.
Nick acknowledged preparations were taking place at relatively short notice.
He said: “I wasn't even sure whether I had anything left in me to run a business for the remainder of the year, let alone taking on such a big adventure, and that's why I'm asking for some help this time round.”
