Brenda and John Felce of Kettering Road, were surrounded by their closest family on Thursday night (February 27) as they celebrated being married for 60 years.

"They have always lived in Northampton, they were born and bred here", their daughter Diane Highton said. "They live in the house my mum grew up in and they bought it off mum's parents and extended it."

The pair, who got married at St Albans Church in their teens, have two children, Diane and Colin, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Diane said: "We had a great upbringing and we are a close-knit family."

John and Brenda met eachother when she was living at the Cross Keys Pub with her family.

John worked in the glass factory in Bull Head Lane and the pub was located on the corner - so she would see him when he went to work.

John, who is 77, spent his career as a neon glass bender and had his own specialist business making signs before he took retirement five years ago.

And, Brenda, 79, spent time working as a nursery nurse and later worked on the Gossett Ward at Northampton General Hospital in the special care baby unit and her granddaughter later followed in her footsteps as a nurse.

In John's younger days he set up Trinity Rugby Club with his school mates and in his spare time now, he enjoys clay pigeon shooting and used to be a keen motorcyclist while Brenda loves to crochet and knit.
