A family has been left devastated after their pooch went missing more than two weeks ago while they were on holiday in Northamptonshire.

Kat Gudgeon, her daughter and their dog Lexi, who live in Lancashire, hired a barge to travel on the Grand Union Canal in mid-July.

On the penultimate day of the getaway (July 25), Lexi, who is a Jack Russel, toy poodle-cross, spooked on the canal path in Stoke Bruerne.

The three-year-old set off running and more than two weeks later has still not been found.

Kat said: “My worst fears came true. Our family is devastated that we have still not had a safe return for her.

“It’s really difficult doing things without her. It’s the little things that set you off, like when I pop to the shop and think I’ll pick her up some dentastix, or doing the garden and not having her there to dig it all up.”

The family continue to make the 200-mile journey to the county regularly to search for Lexi and are extremely grateful for the local community’s support in looking for their pet in and around Stoke Bruerne and Roade.

Kat added: “Everyone has been so supportive and I’ve made friends as I keep coming searching for her.

“We have to think positive. She is coming home. She will be found safe and well and she will come back.”

Lexi, who has been with Kat since she was a puppy, is described as a tiny dog the size of a cat or Yorkshire terrier. She is all black with ginger around her mouth, has long crimped looking fur on her head and long fur on her tail, weighs approximately 4kg, is spayed and chipped and has a red collar with a purple/pink paw print ID tag.

Kat is asking all local residents if they can check their CCTV and ring doorbells and keep an eye out for any new dogs in the area.

Anyone who sees Lexi is asked not to call or chase her as she is easily frightened.

Instead, Kat asks sightings to be reported to her on the #FindLexiNorthants Facebook page she has set up, which can be found here.
